✅ Sleep-disordered breathing, primarily obstructive sleep apnea, is about airway obstruction, not solely oxygen levels. 😴
✅ Issues like snoring or partial/complete airway collapse disrupt sleep continuity, leading to consequences such as decreased focus, irritability, and hyperactivity (often misdiagnosed as ADHD). 🤯
✅ Airway narrowing can be caused by enlarged tonsils/adenoids, deviated septum, weak oral muscles, narrow jaws, or obesity. 📏
✅ Effective treatment requires a collaborative team including sleep doctors, ENTs, airway-minded dentists/orthodontists, and myofunctional therapists. 🤝🦷👃🗣️
✅ Early intervention in craniofacial development is critical for preventing problems. 👶
✅ CPAP for children should be a temporary, transitional therapy while structural issues are addressed. 💡
✅ There is a significant lack of education on these concepts in medical and dental training programs. 🎓❌
✅ A holistic approach, addressing medical, dental, skeletal, and muscular factors, is essential for comprehensive resolution. ✨
